DotA 6.70 Map Download: DotA 6.70 Finally Released - On December 24, 2010, at 02:46 PM, IceFrog continued his long-standing tradition of delivering a major update just before Christmas Eve. DotA 6.70 is a significant milestone, introducing a stunning new loadscreen, two unique heroes, three strategic items, and several engine-level improvements that refine the competitive landscape of DotA.
UPDATE: For those experiencing stability issues, DotA 6.70b has been released to address critical bug fixes found in the initial launch.
DotA 6.70 New Heroes: Technical Breakdown
Tuskarr (Ymir): A strength-based initiator. He compresses 5 shards of ice into a ball of frozen energy that damages all enemies it contacts. Upon hitting an enemy hero or reaching max range, it creates a physical barrier lasting 5 seconds. In playtesting, this barrier is excellent for trapping fleeing enemies or blocking narrow ramps.
Phoenix (Icarus): A high-risk, high-reward hero. Phoenix dives forward in a fixed-distance arc, damaging and disarming units before returning to the start position. Casting another spell during the 2-second dive cancels the movement. While Phoenix gains magic immunity during the dive, it costs 10% of current HP, requiring careful resource management.

DotA 6.70 New Items & Strategic Impact
- Ancient Janggo of Endurance: Features 3 charges. Activation provides a 10% MS and AS buff to nearby player-controlled units for 6 seconds. This is a vital mid-game team-fight utility.
- Medallion of Courage: A targeted debuff that reduces 6 armor from both the caster and the target. This is exceptionally effective for early Roshan attempts or physical burst lineups.
- Smoke of Deceit: A revolutionary tool for competitive play. It grants invisibility and 10% MS to allies in a 900 AoE and hides them from the minimap. The buff breaks if you approach an enemy hero/tower (900 AoE) or attack creeps/Roshan.
System Improvements & Balance Changes
Version 6.70 introduces several quality-of-life updates and balance shifts:
- New high-quality loadscreen by Kunkka.
- Reworked Tavern Layout: Heroes are now organized more logically for faster drafting.
- Buyback Nerf: Added a 4-minute cooldown to Buyback to prevent endless late-game stalemates.
- Minimap Clarity: Updated hero icon representation (Ref: 364977).
- Vision Mechanics: Lane creep vision reduced from 1100 to 850, making ganking more viable.
- Inventory Management: Consumables no longer auto-fuse with items owned by other players (wards remain the exception).
- Visual Update: A completely new model for Furion (Nature's Prophet).
