Dota OMG is a specialized modification based on the classic DotA Allstars map (specifically version 6.66b). In my years of playing custom Warcraft III maps, I’ve found that OMG offers the most chaotic and rewarding experience by breaking the traditional hero-ability constraints, allowing you to build custom skill sets on any hero model.
You can download the map by clicking here.
There are two primary ways to customize your hero's skill set: Random Abilities (-ra) or Abilities Draft (-ad). These must be typed into the lobby chat alongside your standard game modes.
1. Random Abilities (-ra)
- Activated by typing -ra. My personal recommendation for high-stakes fun is combining it with deathmatch: the blue player should type -ardmra to initiate a random-ability, all-random deathmatch.
When a hero is assigned to you, the system automatically grants 3 standard abilities and 1 ultimate. These are pulled from a curated pool and passed through a compatibility check to ensure the hero remains functional.
Note: -ra is compatible with every game mode, except -ad.
2. Abilities Draft (-ad)
- Activated by typing -ad.
In this mode, you participate in a strategic draft. Players select 3 standard abilities and 1 ultimate from a pool of 66 standard skills and 22 ultimates distributed across 9 taverns. The game includes a sophisticated validation system to prevent picking unstackable abilities or game-breaking combinations.
# Draft process.
## 1. Hero Selection: Every player must first select or receive a hero. Heroes remain paused during this phase. If a player disconnects before the draft, use the command -recheck to refresh the game state.
## 2. Preparation: Once the draft begins, you have 60 seconds to inspect the 66 standard abilities and 22 ultimates available in the taverns.
## 3. The Draft Phases: The draft follows a 1-2-2-2-2-1 order with 15 seconds per turn:
- 1st phase: Blue/Pink starts; players pick 2 standard skills or 1 ultimate.
- 2nd phase: Brown/Orange starts; players pick 1 standard skill or 1 ultimate.
- 3rd phase: Blue/Pink starts; players pick up to 2 standard skills or 1 ultimate.
If you fail to select an ability within your turn, you are compensated with gold to spend after the draft concludes.
## 4. Initialization: Once your hero is fully kitted, they are unpaused and your gold returns to its pre-draft level. Creeps spawn one minute after the draft ends.
Note: -ad is incompatible with -ra, -rd, -cd, -dm, and -sp modes. Use -da (Duplicate Abilities) if you want to allow multiple players to pick the same skills.
3. Expert Tips & Caveats
- Aghanim's Scepter does not upgrade custom-picked ultimates, unless it is the hero's native ultimate (e.g., Rylai’s Freezing Field or Lina’s Laguna Blade).
- Critical Warning: Do not purchase or draft Orb effects for Luna; this will cause a client crash.
- Avoid stacking abilities with non-constant damage modifiers (e.g., Enrage, Nethertoxin, Empowering Haste, Ancestral Spirit, Berserker's Blood, Static Link).
- Do not use -switch during an -ad game until the draft is complete.
- Bash-based abilities do not stack with the Cranium Basher item.
4. Special Commands
- -skills: Displays your current ability set (useful for debugging).
- -skillsallies (or -sa): Displays your allies' current abilities.
- -showskills: Reveals assigned skills to allies (exclusive to -ra).
- -showprocess: Allows the blue player to broadcast the draft picks to all players (exclusive to -ad).
5. Checking System
Because many DotA abilities rely on the underlying Warcraft III engine, they share "orders." If two abilities share an order, they may conflict. The map’s internal checking system prevents you from selecting incompatible abilities, ensures ranged/melee-only skills are assigned to the correct hero types, and manages icon slots to prevent UI overflow. You can trust that the system will prevent you from picking a broken build.
