StarCrack ALLin1 Technical Manual
Version: 1.005
Release Date: Thursday, 13.05.2010
This guide provides precise, step-by-step instructions to help you play-test the StarCraft 2 beta offline. These steps are derived from successful installations on our local test machines.
Core Terminology
- StarCrack ALLin1: This is the primary "launcher" software used to play-test the StarCraft 2 beta. It is programmed and maintained by lead engineer vernam7.
- Patches: Official updates released by Blizzard. These download automatically via the SC2 launcher. Currently, there are 11 patches totaling approximately 613MB. Note that Patch 9 was a significant update (approx. 429MB) as it introduced the map editor.
- Cache: A specific set of data files required to render replays and maps correctly. The directory path is OS-specific.
Installation Procedure
To ensure a stable environment, we recommend following these steps in exact order:
- Download & Install: Obtain and install the StarCraft 2 beta client.
- Patching: Run the official StarCraft 2 beta launcher to install all updates. Note: This process can take over an hour depending on your connection.
- Launcher Setup: Download the latest StarCrack ALLin1.
- Security Caveat: You may need to temporarily disable anti-virus software during the StarCrack ALLin1 installation, as some heuristics may flag the launcher's hooks.
- Permissions: Always run the StarCrack ALLin1 installer as "Administrator" to ensure proper file registration.
- Cache Configuration: Follow the specific cache instructions detailed below.
Updating StarCrack ALLin1
To avoid file conflicts, do not overwrite previous versions. Delete the existing folder (e.g., C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II Beta\SC2ALLin1) before installing the new version.
Cache Download and Installation
The cache must be placed in the specific directory used by Battle.net. Replace "your username" with your actual Windows profile name:
Windows 7 and Vista:
C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\Blizzard Entertainment\Battle.net\Cache
Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Local Settings\Application Data\Blizzard Entertainment\Battle.net\Cache
Download: Obtain the latest cache files here:

Pro Tip: When updating, always delete the old cache files entirely before pasting the new ones to prevent data corruption.
StarCraft 2 Beta Maps
Maps must be properly formatted to function with the launcher. While we cannot provide technical support for map editing or custom triggers, you can find verified map packs below:
