DotA 6.71b AI: Vengeance Release and Technical Overview

The long-awaited DotA 6.71b AI, codenamed VENGEANCE, has officially been released. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of PBMN and the AITeam, this version brings the AI bots up to parity with the 6.71b balance changes. Based on our hands-on testing, the most significant addition is the "Dynamic" scaling system, which helps prevent the AI from becoming irrelevant after a few early-game deaths.

Map Code Parity

The map incorporates all data from the official 6.71/6.71b changelists. This includes hero balancing, item adjustments, and bug fixes found on the official DotA website. This ensures that practicing against AI translates accurately to competitive human-versus-human matches.

AI Logic: The Dynamic Exp/Gold System

The -de (Dynamic Experience) and -dg (Dynamic Gold) modes are now enabled by default. This system acts as a "comeback mechanic" for the AI. In standard play, humans receive 100% XP and a passive gold gain of 1 Gold every 0.875 seconds (8G / 7s). The AI now scales based on performance:

  • When an AI hero dies: It receives a +15% XP boost and +4G/7s to its current bonus rate. If the current rate was lower than the starting rate, it resets to the starting rate.
  • When an AI hero kills: To prevent the AI from snowballing uncontrollably, it receives -15% XP and -4G/7s from its current bonus rate.
  • When an AI hero assists: The rate is adjusted by -7% XP and -2G/7s.
  • Floor Limit: The AI rate will never drop below the standard human rate (100% XP / 1G per 0.875s). There is no upper cap on the bonus rate.

Players can monitor these shifts via two new sections in the scoreboard. Note that there is a processing delay of approximately 2.5 seconds for scoreboard updates. If you prefer a static experience, you can disable these features by using the -ne (No Extra Exp) and -ng (No Extra Gold) commands.

Internal Stability

This release includes various internal fixes to pathing and item builds. PBMN has noted that work on the 6.72 AI transition is scheduled to begin shortly, which will involve significant code restructuring.
