LanCraft is a lightweight utility designed to facilitate Warcraft 3 multiplayer sessions over a Local Area Network (LAN). In my experience testing various legacy network tools, LanCraft remains one of the most straightforward solutions for bridging connectivity between clients. It functions by redirecting network traffic, allowing users to bypass standard connection limitations.
Note: The host computer does not require LanCraft to be active. Instead, the host should be running Battle.Lan to properly broadcast the game session to the network.
How to use LanCraft
1. Downloading and installing LanCraft
- Download the LanCraft utility here.
- Extract the contents of lancraft.zip.
- Move the lancraft.exe file directly into your Warcraft 3 installation directory (typically C:\Program Files\Warcraft III).
2. Using LanCraft
- Launch lancraft.exe before starting Warcraft 3.
- In the input field labeled “9.9.9.9”, enter the IP address of the game host.
- Click the “Start Warcraft” button to initialize the redirection.
- Once the game opens, navigate to “Local Area Network”.
- Locate your session in the “Games” field and click “Join Game”.
If you are the host, you do not need to run LanCraft. Instead, ensure you are running the host-specific tool Battle.Lan.
3. Firewall Configuration
For successful connectivity, you must ensure that port 6112 is open and unblocked within your Windows Firewall or third-party security software. This port is the standard requirement for Warcraft 3 network traffic.
4. Troubleshooting
Host Lookup Canceled: This is a common notification; simply click OK to proceed.
Unable To Enter Local Game: Verify that your Warcraft 3 port is set to 6112. You can adjust this by navigating to Options > Game Play within the game menu.
"Don't Send" error: This usually indicates a conflict. Ensure Warcraft 3 is fully closed before launching LanCraft, and verify that no other LAN emulation software is running in the background.
