Version 6.85e Technical Changelog

The 6.85e update focuses heavily on mechanical consistency, particularly regarding how buffs and debuffs interact with reincarnation (Aegis/Leoric). During testing, we observed that many persistent effects were incorrectly sticking to heroes after death; this version resolves those edge cases.

General Mechanics

  • Gold & XP: Fixed Buyback wasting gold if no hero is chosen. Heroes no longer receive experience for a kill if they die before the kill is registered.
  • Creep Logic: Fixed Scourge megacreeps lacking max upgrades.
  • Vision & Map: Towers no longer provide vision for 3 seconds after destruction. When a tower is denied, it is now properly removed from Fog of War.
  • Fountain Changes: Damage type changed from Chaos to Siege (resulting in 25% less damage to heroes). Courier protection removed; any courier can now fly near the enemy fountain like a normal unit.
  • Reincarnation Dispels: A massive list of abilities and items—including Gust, Walrus Kick, Homing Missile, Fire Spirits, Chilling Touch, Cold Feet, Shadow Word, Greater Bash, Deafening Blast, Tombstone Zombies, Decay, Ion Shell, Shackleshot, Fury Swipes, Phantom Rush, Mana Leak, Liquid Fire, Dream Coil, Electric Vortex, Torrent, Urn of Shadows (heal), Force Staff, Boots of Travel (upg), Janggo of Endurance, Veil of Discord, Crimson Guard, Warcry, Battle Trance, Time Walk, and various slows—are now properly dispelled upon death for heroes who reincarnate.
  • Caster Death Logic: Abilities like Skewer, Dark Rift, Static Link, Scorched Earth, Flesh Golem, Icarus Dive, Pounce, Dark Pact, Ice Blast, Astral Imprisonment Int steal, Death Pact, Flaming Lasso, Flamebreak, Focus Fire, Powershot, Windrunner, Meld, Overpower, Ancestral Spirit, Fiery Soul, Bladefury, Battery Assault, Test of Faith (teleportation), Unstable Concoction, and Soul Ring now properly stop if the caster dies and reincarnates.

Neutral Creeps

  • Fixed Black Drakes sleeping at night.
  • Fixed Golem Hatchlings providing double experience.
  • Forest Troll Priest: No longer uses a cast point to heal allies; it now attacks like other neutrals and heals passively. Note: If dominated, the healing ability reverts to the active version.

Hero Balance & Bug Fixes

Admiral (Kunkka)

  • Fixed Ghost Ship Rum post-damage not dispelling after reincarnation.

Batrider

  • Fixed Sticky Napalm increasing damage to illusions as if they were non-heroes.
  • Fixed Napalm not providing bonus damage if initial damage was caused by Urn or Radiance.
  • Resolved issue where Batrider could get stuck in the ground; illusions no longer have flying movement.

Beastmaster

  • Wild Axes can now target anything, including cliffs and structures (target only; no damage to buildings).

Broodmother

  • Fixed Spiderites not being hidden by Spin Web.
  • Fixed Spawn Spiderlings being learnable earlier than intended.

Chaos Knight

  • Fixed Phantasm cooldown display errors in the table when bonus illusions appear.
  • Fixed Phantasm casting too fast during bonus illusion procs.

Chen

  • Improved creep filter and counting logic.
  • Holy Persuasion now kills the oldest controlled unit instead of a random one.
  • Test of Faith (Self) now calls all non-hero, non-marked Chen-owned units.

Clinkz

  • Fixed Death Pact visual effects when refreshed while the previous buff was active.

Dark Seer

  • Vacuum now makes victims pathless, allowing for tighter pulls.
  • Fixed Vacuum failing to deal damage if the enemy dispelled the pull.

Dazzle

  • Shadow Wave can now target magic-immune allies.

Drow Ranger

  • Fixed Gust knockback not being flagged as a disable.
  • Fixed Gust visual effect persisting after being purged.

Earthshaker

  • New fun name: Moonshaker.
  • Echo Slam initial damage type changed from Universal to Magic.
  • Echo Slam initial damage now travels at high speed rather than slow waves.

Earth Spirit

  • Rolling Boulder AoE reduced at the start to prevent hitting enemies behind the caster.

Ember Spirit

  • Fixed Sleight of Fist jumping to dead targets.

Enigma

  • Fixed Golem Hatchlings being too powerful for Demonic Conversion.

Huskar

  • Added a debuff icon for Burning Spears.

Invoker

  • Fixed spell swapping issues.
  • Aghanim's Scepter now grants Forge Spirits bonus damage, armor, and mana (no attack range bonus).
  • Fixed Deafening Blast Aghanim's bonus calculation (was previously dealing more damage without Scepter).
  • Tornado duration adjusted to 2.6/2.9 (Quas 7-8) from 2.5.
  • Deafening Blast now stuns enemies during the knockback.

Jakiro

  • Ice Path can now be targeted onto cliffs.

Keeper of the Light

  • Fixed Recall and Blinding Light persisting during cooldown manipulation.
  • Improved Spirit Form tooltip clarity.

Lich

  • Chain Frost initial stun duration increased from 0.01 to 0.1s.

Lifestealer

  • Infestation no longer interacts with the target on selection if the owner has shared control.

Lina

  • Light Strike Array and Dragon Slave recoded; they no longer affect ground units incorrectly.

Lone Druid

  • Spirit Bear can now utilize Armlet, Helm of the Dominator, and Shiva's Guard.
  • Fixed Spirit Bear Return having no cooldown.
  • Fixed leveling Spirit Bear forcing it to return to the Druid.

Meepo

  • Fixed Meepo respawning without clones if a clone was the cause of death.
  • Fixed Meepo not benefiting from Bloodstone charges or providing AoE heal on death.

Oracle

  • False Promise now features a buff icon.

Phantom Lancer

  • Removed extra visual indicator from Doppelganger's damage-taking illusion to prevent it from being too obvious.
  • Spirit Lance illusions are no longer added to control groups even with -es enabled.

Pudge

  • Meat Hook can now target Ancients (though it still does not affect them).

Pugna

  • Fixed intermittent failures with Nether Blast.

Riki

  • Fixed Blink Strike ignoring "On spell effect" events.
  • Blink Strike now interacts correctly with Linken's Sphere.

Shadow Fiend

  • Removed backswing on spell casting for smoother animation transitions.

Skeleton King

  • Fixed model size shrinking upon respawn.
  • Reincarnation now correctly benefits from Octarine Core cooldown reduction.

Slark

  • Essence Shift now resets if Slark or the victim reincarnates.

Spectre

  • Haunt illusions are no longer automatically added to selection.
  • Fixed Desolate malfunction on illusions.

Spiritbreaker

  • Fixed Empowering Haste activation affecting Charge of Darkness.

Techies

  • Fixed Land Mines triggering too early and dealing zero damage.
  • Remote Mines are now automatically added to the current control group upon placement.

Tinker

  • March of the Machines now originates from the cast point rather than Tinker's position.
  • March of the Machines no longer changes angle if the target point is unpathable.

Tiny

  • Toss targeting restrictions removed; can now target controlled units.
  • Fixed Toss affecting unit fly height incorrectly.

Tuskarr

  • Snowball tree destruction AoE reduced from 300 to 200.

Undying

  • Multi-target attacks (Flak Cannon, Split Shot, Moon Glaive) now properly destroy Tombstone summons.

Weaver

  • The Swarm no longer persists if the target dies and reincarnates.

Windrunner

  • Fixed Windrun evasion disappearing when Focus Fire was initiated.

Winter Wyvern

  • Fixed Splinter Blast slow being removed upon morphing.

Wisp (Io)

  • Attack projectile speed reduced from 1600 to 1200 (matching Dota 2 parity).
  • Relocate and Spirits now stop if Wisp dies, regardless of reincarnation abilities.

Witch Doctor

  • Maledict now features a buff icon and affects illusions.
  • Maledict dispels if the target begins reincarnation.
  • Death Ward vision duration reduced from 10s to 5s.

Item Adjustments

Common Items

  • Fixed targeting issues where Solar Crest, Medallion, Urn, Lotus Orb, Glimmer Cape, Shadow Amulet, Halberd, Atos, Force Staff, and Mjollnir could not target illusions.

Armlet of Mordiggian

  • No longer drains life from invulnerable units.

Blink Dagger

  • Damage threshold to disable Blink increased from 0+ to 2+.

Boots of Travel

  • Player color is now applied to the teleportation effect, matching Town Portal Scrolls.

Couriers

  • Turn rate set to maximum.
  • No longer receive bonus damage from melee non-hero attacks.
  • Land courier model size increased for better visibility.

Crimson Guard

  • Fixed protection buff persisting through death/reincarnation.

Dust of Appearance

  • Fixed incorrect cooldown in the tooltip.

Gem of True Sight

  • Fixed issue where Gem on a courier didn't update correctly when passed to a non-original owner hero.

Linken's Sphere

  • Can now target illusions to provide a "fake" buff visual.

Magic Wand

  • Fixed cooldown from 17s to 13s.

Medallion of Courage / Solar Crest

  • No longer interacts with (is not blocked by) Linken's Sphere.

Nathrezim Buckler

  • Active AoE increased from 750 to 900.

Necronomicon

  • Fixed Last Will damage type and values to match 6.82 parity: Changed from Pure to Magical; damage increased to 550/675/800.
